DDNEWS' pick for May: The Sahara
Today we present a marvellous master craftsman who creates striking, captivating images Julia Weller and her work "Sahara.
"There are oceans of sand all the way to the horizon,
A thin haze is torn by the silk of other worlds,
On the slippery trail of the cobra from barchan and onto barchan - The desert keeps silence of thousand-year wounds..."
Franz Wertfallen
Julia tells us:
- When I was a child, I didn't make my dolls dresses, and the kolobok was the climax of my childhood modelling. I loved to draw, though, and I even went to art school. And then years of creative silence, and only 10 years later there were dolls.
- A long road has come a long way from the timid attempts of modelling a doll's head to the Rococo project and the work of ICAR. A road with ups and downs.
- In December 2021, I received the Pandora Platinum Award for my work "ICAR", but its flight was just beginning. The event for the sake of which it was conceived and made - an exhibition in the State Museum of Cosmonautics, Moscow - was waiting ahead.
