Stran[w]hen Julien Martinez dolls
Julien Martinez is a contemporary French artist, graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, specialising in sculpture, miniature, design and embodiment of Blythe, Pullip, Dal, Toffee, BJD and antique dolls.
The artist, who hails from Bordeaux, has a knack for creating characters succumbing to melancholy, with red eyes, dishevelled hair and decadent clothing; blending aristocratic and rustic life in 19th century France to reflect the loneliness of the individual in each of these dolls, which radiate a unique expression.
In 1996, he presented his first dolls at the Paris-Création international exhibition, receiving a very warm welcome from the public, which was accompanied by the immediate success of his products inspired by various visual and literary references such as films, fairy tales or the history of clothing.
Julien Martinez currently presents his original works to an audience of collectors, and some of his dolls are exhibited at the Musée des Miniatures et Décor du Cinéma in France and at the Salon International de Maison de Poupée in Paris.
About himself he says: "In 1983/84 I discovered 'The Dark Crystal' and this film made me realise who I would be in the future. Thank you, Mr Henson."
