Sculptor Ron Mueck works in a style of hyper-realism, which aims to depict the world not just authentically, but super-realistically.
Ron Mueck grew up in Melbourne and began his career in puppetry and special effects. He first worked as a creative director on Australian children's television before moving to America to work in film and advertising there. In 1986, he moved to London to work on television characters for Sesame Street and The Muppet Show.
His early works were created in fibreglass, but then he began to work with silicone, which is more malleable and makes it easier to form realistic images. Ron Mueck's work is widely exhibited and collected all over the world. The author takes a long time to create a sculpture, he works slowly in his small studio in North London, making time an important element of his creative process. His human figures are meticulously detailed, with surprising changes of scale that put them as far from academic realism as they are from pop art.
Pencil sketches, small sculptural models in wax or clay, wrinkle moulding, textures, layers of varnish, rubber, plastic, silicone skin, iris dyeing, hair, accessories - weeks and months of monastic obedience to your creation before the character is born.
