E.J.Taylor is an American artist who studied art and theatre in college and then costume and fashion design at Parsons School of Design in New York City. He was a member of the United Alliance of Motion Picture and Theatre Artists in New York.
His interest in doll making began with his introduction to folk dolls as a child. He started making dolls out of bale wire, cotton, scraps from his mother's quilting basket and her worn out nylon stockings. But his puppetry was not encouraged, so he gave it up. In college, he experimented with sculpture and puppet making.
After moving to London in 1979, E.J.Taylor wrote and illustrated the successful Ivy Cottage series of children's books. But by 1986 he had grown bored of making dolls, started creating them and realised there was no turning back.
