Art deco bas-reliefs and sculptures by Victoria Ellis

Victoria Ellis's authorial response to the popular decorative style of the early 20th century presents us with bas-reliefs and sculptures made with great piety in relation to the original objects. The artist uses a special technique of "carving" in clay, similar to the way openwork paper cut-outs are made.
Art Deco, sometimes called Deco, is a style of fine art, architecture and design that first appeared in France shortly before the First World War. It influenced the design of buildings, furniture, jewellery, fashion, cars, cinemas, trains, ocean liners and everyday objects such as radios and hoovers. Art Deco got its name, short for Arts Décoratifs, from the exhibition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes.
