Ronnie Burkett puppets

Ronnie Burkett is a Canadian puppeteer. He is best known for his original plays for adults that are performed by puppets. "When I am on stage I approach the ritual religiously, I try not to disturb the little people and the audience" - says Ronnie Burkett about himself and his work.
At the age of 7, he became fascinated with puppets and decided to become a puppeteer. According to Burkett, his first "real" show was a musical with hand puppets, The Shred of Oz, which he wrote himself and began touring with at the age of 14.
Thanks to Ronnie Burkett's dexterity and skills, puppet management seems deceptively simple. At times, the viewer does not realise that behind all this ease, there are years of practice and experimentation that have led to an impeccable performance technique.
Burkett creates his puppets from various materials, using wood, clay and papier-mâché. He writes his own scripts for his plays and composes songs. In one of his puppet shows, "10 Days on Earth", he describes the story of his life, where loss and betrayal were present.
Ronnie Burkett is the recipient of many awards including Emmy, Obie and Pulitzer Prize for Puppeteers. He now works out of a small studio in Toronto in an old factory and continues to create unique puppets.
