"THE PUPPETS AND THE PEOPLE". Elista.
On 22 April, an exhibition of Ossetian dolls "Dolls and People" opened at the N. N. Palmov National Museum of Kalmykia in Elista. The exhibition of Ossetian author dolls "Dolls and People" opened in Elista.
Ludmila Moshuldaeva (Erdniev), art director of the Gallery of Artists and Masters of Popular Decorative and Applied Arts, was the organiser from Kalmykia; Zemfira Dziova, puppeteer and member of the Russian Union of Artists, was from Ossetia.
This is the first exhibition of author dolls in Kalmykia, designed to introduce the republic's residents to new and interesting artists and the art of doll making, and to offer master classes for beginners.
The traditional Ossetian doll has changed drastically, having come a long way from a cult and ceremonial object to a souvenir and then to an author's doll.
The geography of Ossetian dolls is vast. They are sent as souvenirs to the USA, Latvia, Turkey and many Russian cities. Tourists often buy dolls, Ossetian old women and old men doing everyday chores (knitting, mowing grass), as well as dressed-up Ossetian beauties and dzhigits in national costumes.
Author's dolls displayed at the exhibition "Dolls and People" in the works of such masters as: Dziova Zemfira, Tautieva Aza, Indira Tsakhilova, Imara Akkizova, Bella Khetagurova, Irina Kanukova, Marina Azizova, Yulia Timina, Zhanna Titova and Galina Kandybka, reflect a love of tradition and the new trends of modernity.
The experience of many generations and the techniques of folk toy masters have been combined to reflect today's cultural trends. Traditional materials have been replaced by polymer clay, which makes it possible to create fine details of dolls, as well as large-scale projects, from miniatures to figurative sculptures of human height. Recently, dolls reflecting culture, traditions and the beauty of the national character - courage, bravery, loyalty to duty and love for the Motherland - have become increasingly popular.
The exhibition "Puppets and People" is truly unique and unrepeatable. The viewer is introduced to the beautiful and mysterious world of Ossetian culture, which we recognise through accurately depicted features of characters, "talking" poses and gestures, and the smallest details of costumes. All exhibits are as realistic and believable as possible
The exhibition is aimed at a wide range of viewers: it will be of interest to a sophisticated specialist, collector, artist, and an ordinary family with children, who can see the diversity of puppet art in one place, art that is positive and understandable to most people. Visitors to the exhibition will acquire a piece of Ossetian culture and touch the beautiful and mysterious world that lurks in the origins and customs of the Ossetian people.
We hope that this first exhibition will attract attention, become the starting point of a series of thematic events and, by going beyond the region, begin its march towards international venues in the near and far abroad.
Good riddance!
We look forward to seeing you at the exhibition until 20 May 2022.
