The premiere of the puppet. A little match.
Laura Scattolini, author of the "Little Match" doll, is a member of the competition jury Gaudir 2023.
"I have been in the world of puppets for many years, but based on fairy tales I have created only "Little Red Riding Hood".
Last October I took part in the dolls exhibition "Fiabe & Fantasy", which took place in Rome. For this exhibition I made "Alice in Wonderland". The collector who bought it expressed his desire to have a "Little Matchstick". A doll that would be based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Girl with the Matches", and I liked the idea.
I use CERNIT DOLL in my work. I like this material very much and have been faithful to it for many years. "Little Matchstick" is 69 cm high, fixed on a wooden base 50 x 25 cm. I stained her dress, scraped it with sandpaper and made slippers from real leather. The hair is real and the eyes are made of light brown glass. I was very fascinated by the creation of this little girl, poor, sad and discontented, who sells matches to uninvited passers-by with dignity.
After finishing the doll, I realised that it was missing something that made me think of the road... And after a long search, I found a street lamp and fell in love with it. The street lamp manages to add some drama to the scene and completes the piece. At the end, I added snow to justify the cold gaze of the little girl."
